Local SEO: How Local Businesses Can Get Found on Google

Analysing marketing data on a laptop

When someone searches for a service “near me”, Google shows a map with a handful of local businesses. Getting into that list is one of the most valuable things a local business can do online. This is local SEO, and most of it is within your control.

1. Claim and complete your Google Business Profile

This is the listing that appears on Google Maps. Add your exact business name, address, phone number, opening hours, services and photos. Choose the most accurate primary category.

2. Keep your details consistent everywhere

Your name, address and phone number should be identical on your website, your Google profile, Facebook and local business directories. Inconsistent details confuse search engines.

3. Ask happy customers for reviews

Reviews influence both rankings and the customer’s decision. Make it easy by sending a direct review link after a job is done, and reply to every review, good or bad.

4. Create location-focused pages

If you serve several towns, a page for each area with genuinely useful local information helps you appear for those searches. Avoid copying the same text with only the town name changed.

5. Make your website mobile-friendly and fast

Local searches happen on phones, often while people are on the move. A click-to-call button and a WhatsApp link turn searches into enquiries.

6. Post updates regularly

Share offers, new work and news on your Google profile and in your blog. Fresh activity signals that your business is active.
